The event cache is a type of geocache that centers around a social gathering of geocachers.

"Occasionally, local geocachers and geocaching organizations designate a time and location to meet and discuss geocaching. After the event the cache is archived."[1]
Events can range from simple to elaborate depending on the purpose of the event. Some of the more common event themes include:
- Meet and Greet
- Meet and Cache
- Flash Mob
- Picnic
- Competition
Themes are only limited by the imagination of the event organizer(s). If popular, events may become regular events, held anywhere from once a month to once a year.
Event Types[]
While there are a wide variety of different ways to host an event, all events fall into one of four different types of events:
- Regular Event - the most common event type.
- Cache In Trash Out - an event focused on cleaning up an area.
- Mega Event - a larger event attended by more then 500 People.
- Giga Event - the largest kind of event, attended by more than 5000 people.
- GPS Adventures Exhibit Cache, a special kind of event tied into the GPS Adventures Maze Exhibit.
- 10 Years! Event Cache - a special type of event celebrating the 10th anniversary of Geocaching.
